Robert Wexler, D-Florida, quizzed Condoleezza Rice Thursday on her role in trumpeting the 935 lies that landed the US in Iraq. Watch Condi climb onto her high horse in response. An interesting approach for a woman who should be facing war crime charges after she finally leaves office.
Wexler pointed out that 56 of the lies were told by then-National Security Advisor Rice herself, but Condi was having none of it.
“I take my integrity very seriously, and I did not at any time make a statement that I knew to be false or that I thought to be false in order to ‘pump up’ anything.”
“Nobody wants to go to war,” she added.
For anyone still counting, that would be 57.

So a community decides that they don’t want war recruiters coaxing their children into becoming cannon fodder, and a senator is offended. Cry me a river, Senator DeMint.
DeMint has a checkered history of wading into military matters. Last May Jon Soltz, co-founder and chair of VoteVets.org, felt compelled to respond to a few of DeMint’s shriller claims. DeMint continues to insist that Iraq had WMD and says that many of the war’s casualties can be laid at the feet of Congress for saying, in his words, “We’ve got to get out, we’ve got to cut and run.”
Soltz:
“Wimps are people like Senator DeMint who don’t want to ask the tough questions or face facts, which is why he’s idiotically clinging to the idea that there were WMD in Iraq. Any stockpiles of weapons found in Iraq were useless — either inert or rusted and unusable because of their age.
“Senator DeMint is living in some sort of twisted fantasy land, where democracy, not failed policy, is responsible for too many American lives lost in Iraq, and where bad intelligence is miraculously valid. He should click his ruby slippers three times and join us back in the land of reality, or resign from the Senate.”
Ouch.
Fast-forward nine months and DeMint has found a new cause to nurture. Hot on his ruby-slippered heels is Michelle Malkin, never one to shy away from sending other people off to fight:
“Oh, I love how the SF Chronicle characterizes bloggers as ‘ballistic,’ and not these nutballs trying to drive the Marines out of Berzerkeley.”
Berzerkeley.
Stay true to character, Michelle. We love that about you.
Michelle, again, for the Daily Dumbass™? It’s a squeaker, but I say we award the Dumbass to DeMint.
We’re the Deciders. Impeach now.
