It was at the point in paragraph three where the writer mentions that the Dems are warming to Ohio governor Ted Strickland as a VP candidate, largely because he is rated “A” by the NRA, when I felt the need for a reality check. Since when, I asked myself, did satisfying the NRA become a priority for Democrats when picking their candidates?

Then I looked at who the writer was: Robert Novak.

Ten days later, Hillary Clinton still has not been sufficiently held to account for threatening to unleash a holocaust on the Iranian people. She has neither apologized for nor repudiated her statement to “totally obliterate” Iran with nuclear weapons. We have no choice but to believe that she said what she meant to say, the result of which would be genocide. In other news, President Bush said don’t call it “torture.” Instead call it “filling their insides with water to prepare them for the drought that will accompany global warming.”

265 days and counting.

There’s more than one way to read Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” statement. When you look at the massive transfers of wealth that have occurred since he took office and the immense control the government and corporations now exercise over the American people, you might conclude that Bush’s mission was, in fact, accomplished. On top of this, fealty to the military is now de rigueur, otherwise we wouldn’t continue to allocate more money for defense than the rest of the world combined, especially at the onset of a recession.
